Rosin Press Designs Comparisons

Some of the Pros and Cons of the typical hydraulic press designs.

Selecting the Ideal Press Frame Criterial List,

1) Quality press structure to provide good plate parallelism (minimize bag blow outs)

2) Hand Pump

3) Pressure Gage

4) Pneumatic Pump (for connecting air compressor.

6) Service

7) Spare hydraulic seal kit

8) Will the top plate rotate while being pumped down (not ideal for rectanglar or square press plates)

9) Will the heat creap thru the frame and destroy the hydraulic seals? (insulated plates are best for some press designs)

10) Ideally all hydraulics components and fluids would exist beneath the squishing zone. Protecting against any contamination

of hydraulic fluids with extracts. (see newvape presses)

11) Will the press allow directional flow?

Below are some frequently asked questions?

A 20 ton Hydraulic Press has 40,000 lbs of force and (measured with a gage) should produce equal yields when compared against any other 20 ton press.
Anybody that says their 20 ton will out produce another 20 ton is being disingenuous.

The differences between various 20 ton presses comes down to cost, support, features, quality, ergonomics, durability, longevity, reliability, easy of use.

Although the Rosin Press market is young and just in it's infancy stage everyone seems to agree that the harder you squish the products the more comes out. A 20 ton will always yield more than a 12 ton, 50 ton more than 20 ton.

I appreciate you providing me a chance to give you my perspective on the current rosin press market.

Our Strengths:
  1. Press plates are all 100% stainless steel and machined in the USA. The hardness allows superior surface finish which allows for easier cleaning, less pitting, less warping,
  2. Our press plates are all Insulated to regulate the heat and protect the press seals.
  3. We only use off the shelf electronic coils and digital controllers. Any local smoke shop will carry enail controllers and flat coils.
  4. We do recomend harbor freight (extended warranty) for their local walk in warranty benefits.
  5. 100% of your support comes from an english speaking support person. 1-888-361-1710
  6. Highest quality American made
  7. Durability and longevity of stainless steel
  8. Our press designs keep the hydraulics below the squish zone to prevent contamination of hydraulic oil into extract.
  9. Minimized Down Time, As you move to depend more and more on a piece of equipment it can devastating to your business when it breaks down.

Basically our motto is don't cut corners.

Unlike our competitors our press plates are all insulated to help regulate the heat and protect the press seals (and yes we learned this the hard way).
Yes we could be machining the press plates from aluminum and increase our profits.
Yes we could wire 2 coils to one pid controller and save money.
Yes we could use proprietary electronics.
Yes we could use chinese hydraulics with no stateside warranty or support.

Their Weakness:

Here's a couple of repeating themes from new rosin press customers that call in each week speaking about their issues.

 1) The press that I paid $1-4k broke and I'm waiting on a free / warranty part to arrive from china.
 2) The 3000 psi pneumatic press that I paid $1-4k doesn't produce good yields
 3) The aluminum plates that I purchased have become wrapped and pitted.
 4) The plates that I've been using are were not insulated and the hydraulic seals have been destroyed and been leaking into my rosin.

Below are some Rosin Press Notes

Plates

What size rosin press plates to do I need?

We offer 2", 4" and 6" plates.  If you feel that you're only going to squish a single flower or small bag, then the 2" plates are perfect. The 2" plates work with any size press, from 1 to 20 tons.   The 2" plates focus all pressure into a small area, giving you the maximum PSI compared to other sizes.

4" plates are the most common, and suitable for those that want to either press a single flower, or a medium size silk squish bag.  4"plates are great for moderate production runs as well.  4" plates are ideal for 2 ton presses and above.

6" plates offer the largest area for squishing, and are best suited for high-volume production runs.  We recommend a minimum 6 ton press for these plates, with an ideal range being 12-20 tons.  The larger surface area requires more pressure, but keep in mind the surface area of the amount you're pressing (bag, puck or flower size) is the true measure of the PSI compared to overall surface area of the plate itself.

How many heaters do I need for my Plates?

The 2" plates can be heated via 2 flat coil heaters.  In a pinch you can also use 1 heater in the bottom plate, it just takes longer to heat both plates up. Both the 4" and 6"plates can accomodate 4 flat coil heaters, two on top and two on the bottom.

It is also possible to heat your plates in your oven.  Just heat them to ~20°F higher than the temperature you need (200°F to 250°F depending on pressure*) and transfer via oven mitts to your press.

*The more pressure you have the less heat you need.  With lower temperatures, you achieve greater terpene transfer

Can I heat my plates in the oven?

Absolutely!  See previous question.

What is the correct temperature for the plates?

This depends on many factors.  The more pressure you bring, the less heat you need.  Also certain strains will have different temperature requirements.  Its best to start low @ 200°F and work your way up until you find the perfect extraction point for your strain.

What are the Errl Rosin Press Plates made of?

The Errl Rosin Press Plates are made from medical-grade stainless steel.  The plates are made alongside all of our other great products in Boynton Beach, Florida.  Each plate separates vis 4 hex bolts for heater insertion/removal.

Will 6" plates work on a 2-ton press?

Techinically, but we don't recommend it.  In theory if you are pressing a single flower or a small silk bag, it will work, but the 6" plates were designed for larger production runs requiring at least 12 tons of pressure.

What plate/press Adapter do I need?

We make a variety of adapters so that you can adapt the Errl Rosin Press plates to nearly any press on the market.  We have adapters for all the presses available from Harbor Freight, and also Dake, and Baileigh.  If you have a press not mentioned, just let us know and we can make an adapter for you.

Presses

Why do I need Maximum Pressure?

Because you want maximum extraction with this rosin press techinique.  The more pressure you have, the more you can extract, plain and simple.  Don't waste your time with a hair flat iron, or even a bench vise or c-clamp.  They might extract a little, but will leave most of the gooey goodness behind.  We strongly recommend at least a 6 ton press, and ideally the 20 ton press.  But we realize this won't work for everyone, so at the bare minimum, go for a 1 or 2 ton arbor press.  The harder you squish, the more you will extract!

Where can I get a press?

Presses are available at a variety of locations.  We highly recommend Harbor Freight, which has over 650 locations nationwide as well as their online store.  The presses at Harbor Freight are very economical regardless of size.  Also this benefits you for warranty registration, and reduced shipping costs compared to NewVape.  HF ships tens if not hundreds of thousands of items a day, and can offer drastically reduced shipping costs compared to NewVape.

Why don't you sell Presses?

Getting your press locally benefits you for warranty registration, and reduced shipping costs compared to NewVape.  Harbor Freight ships tens if not hundreds of thousands of items a day, and can offer drastically reduced shipping costs compared to NewVape.
